Why Does My Candle Pull Away from the Glass? (It's Totally Normal!)
Share
If you've ever looked at your candle and noticed a little gap between the wax and the jar, you might've wondered "is something wrong with my candle?"
The short answer: nope, not at all!
This little phenomenon is called wax shrinkage, and it happens when the wax cools and hardens after being poured. As it sets, the wax naturally contracts a bit, and sometimes that causes it to pull away slightly from the sides of the container. It's especially common with natural waxes like we use here at Out Yonder.
So, why does it happen?
There are a few things that can cause wax to pull away from the glass:
- Cooling too quickly: If a candle cools rapidly (say, in a chilly room), the wax can contract more noticeably.
- Container shape & size: Tall, narrow jars can make this more visible.
- Natural wax: These are more prone to shrinkage than synthetic waxes - but we love them because they're clean burning and eco-friendly!
Does it affect how the candle burns?
Not one bit. It's just a cosmetic thing. Your candle will still burn beautifully and smell amazing- no matter what the sides look like. Think of it like a quirky little trait that comes with being handmade and natural!
At Out Yonder Candle Co, every candle is poured in small batches with care (and a whole lotta love). Minor imperfections like this are a reminder that you're getting something unique.. not mass produced.
